Shibu Baby John

Biography:

Shibu Baby John (born July 27, 1963) is an Indian politician, businessman, film producer, and former Minister for Labour in the State Government of Kerala. He was the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John), a party based in Kerala, before it merged with the Revolutionary Socialist Party. Following the merger, he became a national committee member of the RSP. On February 21, 2023, he was elected as the Secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party Kerala State Committee. He is the son of former RSP leader Baby John and Annamma John.

Shibu married Annie Constantine, a civil engineering graduate from TKM College of Engineering, on January 17, 1988. They have two children. Shibu graduated with a B.Tech from TKM College of Engineering in Kollam and later entered the export business. In the 2001 Indian assembly elections, he contested from the Chavara constituency on the RSP ticket and won, a constituency long associated with his father. In 2005, Shibu left the RSP to form the Revolutionary Socialist Party (Baby John). In the 2006 assembly elections, he lost to N.K. Premachandran of the RSP.

In the 2011 assembly elections, Shibu defeated N.K. Premachandran, then the state minister, by 6061 votes in the Chavara constituency. He was sworn in as a minister on May 23, 2011. However, in 2014, the two leaders merged their parties, allowing Premachandran to join the UDF and later secure a Lok Sabha seat in subsequent elections. In 2016, Shibu was defeated by Vijayan Pillai of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP), who is the son of veteran RSP leader N. Narayana Pillai.
