Indian film editor Shan Mohammed specializes in Tamil and Hindi-language productions. After completing his articleship in Chennai, Shan Mohammed, a graduate of business, met cinematographer P. C. Sreeram at a picture show. Sreeram advised him to travel to Mumbai if he wanted to pursue a career in filmmaking. Before enrolling in the editing program at Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India in 2000, Shan was collaborating with Pankaj Advani on a series of 10-minute shorts for Channel V called Bheja Fry. Shan aggressively looked for possibilities to get engaged in Hindi filmmaking during his course, and in his third year, he edited the experimental films Frozen (2007) and The Great Indian Butterfly (2007).
After receiving praise for his work in both endeavors, he went on to more ambitious undertakings and gained more recognition for his performance in Aamir Khan’s Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008). After meeting Kamal Haasan, he was signed to work on the high-profile, bilingual historical drama Marmayogi before it was put on hold. Additionally, he edited the award-winning Kashmiri language film Harud (Winter), which was directed by Aamir Bashir.
He kept getting praise for his roles in Wake Up Sid (2009) and Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014), and he then went back to work with Kamal Haasan on Telugu and Tamil movies like Thoonga Vaanam and Manmadhan Ambu. He left Revolver Rani (2014) in the middle of production, saying the producers had not paid him for his efforts. Shan has worked on several films with director and cinematographer Shankar Raman, including Gurgaon, Leila, and Love Hostel. Additionally, he edited comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath’s hit program Laakhon Mein Ek and Akshat Verma’s well-known cult favorite Kaalakandi. Savi by Abhinay Deo and Bad Newz, a comedy about Dharma by Anand Tiwari, are two of his latest major releases.
