Shammi Kapoor, an iconic figure in Hindi cinema, is celebrated as one of the most successful actors in Indian film history. His illustrious career spanned over five decades, during which he starred in more than 100 films and earned three Filmfare Awards, including one for Best Actor.
Born on October 21, 1931, in Bombay to renowned actor Prithviraj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor belonged to the illustrious Kapoor family. Kapoor’s career took a significant turn with the film Tumsa Nahi Dekha (1957), establishing him as a stylish playboy and dancer. He further solidified his reputation with Dil Deke Dekho (1959). His rise to stardom was marked by the romantic blockbuster Junglee (1961). Throughout the 1960s, Kapoor became one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars, featuring in hits such as Professor (1962), Dil Tera Diwana (1962), China Town (1962), Rajkumar (1964), Kashmir Ki Kali (1964), Janwar (1965), Teesri Manzil (1966), An Evening In Paris (1967), Brahmachari (1968), and Prince (1969). His performance in Brahmachari earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
After his leading role in Andaz (1971), Kapoor transitioned to supporting roles, earning acclaim for performances in Parvarish (1977), Prem Rog (1982), Vidhaata (1982), Betaab (1983), Hero (1983), Sohni Mahiwal (1984), Wanted (1984), Hukumat (1987), Daata (1989), Tahalka (1992), Chamatkar (1992), Gardish (1993), and Rockstar (2011), his final film.
