Shaan Rahman

Biography:

Shaan Rahman (born on December 30, 1979) is an Indian composer and singer renowned for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. He began his career as a music director with the 2009 film Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, directed by Johny Antony. His entry into film music was facilitated by the widespread acclaim of his 2008 music album Coffee at MG Road, a collaborative effort with his friend Vineeth Sreenivasan, who is also a singer and director.

Shaan was later invited by Vineeth to compose music for his directorial debut, Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010). Since then, the duo has frequently worked together on various projects. Shaan gained significant recognition for composing music in movies like Thattathin Marayathu (2012), Ormayundo Ee Mukham (2014), Aadu (2015), Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015), Adi Kapyare Kootamani (2015), Vettah (2016), Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016), and Annmariya Kalippilaanu (2016). His song “Jimikki Kammal” from the 2017 film Velipadinte Pusthakam achieved nationwide popularity, inspiring numerous online renditions.

Thattathin Marayathu (2012), Shaan’s third film as a composer, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, received widespread praise for its music. Renowned composer M. Jayachandran called the song “Muthuchippi Poloru” his favorite of the year. In 2014, Shaan debuted in Telugu cinema with Saheba Subramanyam, a remake of Thattathin Marayathu.

Shaan hails from Thalassery in Kannur district and resides with his family in Kakkanad, Kochi. His father works for the Union Cement Company (UCC), while his mother is a homemaker. He has a younger sister, Sherry, who is a doctor married to Dr. Khalid, and a younger brother, Shaheer, studying B.A. Visual Effects at ICAT. Shaan married Zaira on October 11, 2009, and they have a son, Rayaan.

In 2023, Shaan Rahman established the Shaan Rahman Music Conservatory in Kochi, Kerala, dedicated to nurturing musical talent. The conservatory offers training in various disciplines, including Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western vocals, as well as guitar and piano courses.
