Indian cartoonist Satish Acharya is from Kundapura, Karnataka. Acharya, an Indian professional cartoonist, appeared on “United Sketches” in 2015. Additionally, Acharya was listed among Forbes India’s “24 Intellectuals” in 2015.
Acharya has no professional art experience and is a self-taught cartoonist. contributed cartoons to Kannada magazines like Taranga, Sudha, and Tushara while he was a student in order to make pocket money. After earning a BCom from Bhandarkar’s College in Kundapura, he pursued an MBA in finance at Mangalore University.
After earning an MBA, Acharya relocated to Mumbai and began working as an account executive for an advertising agency before leaving to pursue a career in cartooning. His first job was as a political cartoonist for the English tabloid Midday, which was situated in Mumbai. In 2003, he began working as a staff cartoonist for Midday, and for nine years, he contributed to the daily cartoon column. He creates cartoons for Gulf News as well.
Acharya’s cartoon[9] depicting PM Modi in the hands of China was rejected by Mail Today, which also fired the cartoonist. Mail Today editor Dwaipayan Bose deemed Satish Acharya’s claims of censorship by the publication unfounded.
Newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The Times, and The Guardian reprinted Acharya’s cartoon about the Charlie Hebdo Massacre, which was considered by international media to be one of the most impactful depictions of the disaster .
