Samira Koppikar is a singer, songwriter, composer, and music director from India. She made her Bollywood composing debut in 2015 with the song “Maati Ka Palang” for the movie NH10. The song “Aaj Phir Tum Pe” from Hate Story 2 (2014), which peaked at number seven in the top ten Bollywood singles of 2014, set her apart as a Bollywood playback singer. She has played at the International Jazz Festival in Montreal.
Koppikar recorded commercial jingles to start her career. Indian jazz masters Louis Banks and Joe Alvarez, who eventually became her teachers, discovered her during a jam session while she was in the process of starting a band.
Koppikar has performed at corporate events and music festivals in India and elsewhere, such as the Lavasa Music and Art Festival, the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2010, and the Taj Vivanta Mumbai and Pune. When Koppikar was singing one of her creations, Arko Mukherjee overheard her and offered her “Aaj Phir Tumpe Pyar Aaya hai”, which was her first playback song as a singer for the 2014 Bollywood movie Hate Story 2. By 2025, 213 million people had viewed its music video. “Mohabbat Barsa De” for the Creature 3D movie came next.
As a singer-songwriter in the independent market, Koppikar launched her first single, “Bebasi,” which included both a song and a music video. Koppikar’s song “Maati Ka Palang” and another composition were included in the soundtrack and album for the 2015 Bollywood film NH10. Navdeep Singh is the director of the movie, which was produced by Phantom Films, Eros International, and Clean Slate Films. Neil Bhoopalam and Anushka Sharma play the main parts in the movie. The Bollywood song “Bairaagi” from Bareilly Ki Barfi, which Samira later released, was nominated for both the Mirchi Music Awards and the Filmfare Awards.
