Safia Oakley-Green

Biography:

Safia Grace Oakley-Green (born June 2001) is an English actress who rose to prominence for her performance in the horror film Out of Darkness (2022). Her role earned her both a British Independent Film Award and a Scottish BAFTA, and she was subsequently recognized as a 2023 Screen International Star of Tomorrow.

Born in Southwark, London, Oakley-Green later moved to Derbyshire. She has Irish heritage through her mother and Jamaican roots on her father’s side. She trained at the Television Workshop in Nottingham and holds a first-class honours degree in Psychology from the University of London.

In 2021, she appeared in the horror short Requiem alongside fellow Television Workshop graduate Bella Ramsey. The film gained wider attention following Ramsey’s breakout success in HBO’s The Last of Us.

Oakley-Green made her feature film debut in the Sky Cinema biographical drama The Colour Room (2021), starring opposite Phoebe Dynevor. She entered television in 2022 with the role of Cinderella Jackson in BBC One’s crime drama Sherwood. That same year, she starred in the Scottish prehistoric horror film Out of Darkness (formerly titled The Origin), a performance that earned her the British Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Performance and later the BAFTA Scotland award for Best Film Actress.

In 2023, Oakley-Green took on a recurring role as Andy in the first season of the Disney+ comedy Extraordinary. She has since appeared in the second season of Sky Max’s The Lazarus Project and in the Paramount+ series The Burning Girls.
