Ranjith Balakrishnan is an Indian film director, screenwriter, lyricist, producer, and actor who works in Malayalam cinema. He was born on September 5, 1964. In 2001, Ranjith directed his first film, Ravanaprabhu, which was the follow-up to Devaasuram.
In 2008 and 2011, respectively, his films Thirakkatha and Indian Rupee were awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. In addition, he currently serves as Kerala State Chalachitra Academy’s chairman.
Ranjith was raised at Perambra, in the Keralan district of Kozhikode, after being born in Balussery. Perambra Higher Secondary School was his school of choice. In 1985, he received his diploma from the Thrissur School of Drama and Fine Arts.
