Rama Rajamouli

Biography:

Rama Rajamouli is a prominent Indian costume designer and film stylist, primarily active in Telugu cinema. She marked her debut in the industry with the 2001 film “Student No: 1” and has since gained recognition for her remarkable work in movies such as “Magadheera” (2009), “Eega” (2012), “Baahubali: The Beginning” (2015), “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (2017), and “RRR” (2022).

Her talent has earned her the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Costume Designer thrice. Additionally, she received nominations for Best Costume Design at the 42nd Saturn Awards and the 12th Asian Film Awards for her contributions to “Baahubali 1” and “Baahubali 2.”

Rama Rajamouli tied the knot with filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli in 2001, following her previous marriage’s dissolution. Known affectionately as Chinni by Rajamouli, she is also the mother of Karthikeya, her son from her previous marriage, whom Rajamouli adopted. The couple also welcomed an adopted daughter named Mayookha into their family. Karthikeya is married to Pooja Prasad, the niece of actor Jagapathi Babu. Interestingly, Rama shares a familial connection with filmmaker Gunnam Gangaraju, who happens to be her cousin.

Initially, Rama ventured into the industry in 2001 as an actor, taking on various minor roles in the TV sitcom “Amrutham,” created and produced by her cousin Gangaraju Gunnam. However, after marrying S. S. Rajamouli, she transitioned to a career in costume designing, starting with the film “Student No. 1” in the same year. Rama has since been a consistent presence in her husband’s films, contributing her expertise as a costume designer and stylist. In an interview with TV9, she mentioned that Amar Chitra Katha serves as her inspiration for costume designing in the epic “Baahubali.” Notably, for the film “RRR,” Rama also worked as an additional dialogue writer.
