Biography:

Rajeev Barnwal is an Indian film maker, writer, and director who has worked extensively in Bollywood and digital entertainment mediums. Barnwal has initially gained reputation through his work as a screen writer in movies like Besharam (2013). Apart from working in movies, he has written screenplays for television shows like Savdhaan India. His works as a short film maker include critically acclaimed pieces like Masterpiece (2019) and Fit India (2020). Both these short films were directed and written by him and highlight his prowess of integrating socially relevant subject matter with captivating storytelling.

It was Barnwal’s feature debut Vadh (2022) which got him much fame. Written and co-directed by him along with Jaspal Singh Sandhu, it starred actors like Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta. This psychological crime drama got much appreciation for its engrossing plot and morality, which earned Barnwal Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director at 68th Filmfare Awards. Barnwal extended his reach to OTT world through his creation, writing, and direction of SonyLIV’s political crime drama, Jehanabad – Of Love & War (2023). The show is highly appreciated for its compelling depiction of caste politics, crime, and love story set in Bihar. Known for his grounded storytelling and character development, Rajeev Barnwal is one of the contemporary names in Indian cinema and streaming world.
