Radhika Kumaraswamy

Biography:

Indian actress and producer Radhika Kumaraswamy (born Radhika Poojary) mostly works in Kannada movies. In 2002, she debuted as an actress in the Kannada movie Ninagagi. Under the moniker Shamika Enterprises, she produced her debut feature, Lucky, starring Yash, in 2012.

After completing her tenth class, Radhika began her acting career with the Kannada film Neela Megha Shama (2002). She made her debut in the immensely successful films Ninagagi, starring Vijay Raghavendra, and Tavarige Baa Tangi, starring Shivrajkumar.

She starred in five Kannada films in 2003, including the commercially unsuccessful Thayi Illada Thabbali and Mane Magalu; Hemanth Hegde’s directorial debut Ooh La La; Hudugigaagi, costarring S. P. B. Charan; and Yograj Bhat’s first feature film, Mani, in which she played a prostitute’s daughter. In spite of the film’s poor box office returns, Radhika’s performance as Gowri in Thayi Illada Tabbali won her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress.

After that, Radhika started working in Tamil cinema, immediately appearing in four Tamil films and one Telugu film (Bhadadri Ramudu). S. P. Jananathan’s award-winning first directing debut, Iyarkai (2003), was her first Tamil film.

Kutty Radhika’s portrayal of the “impulsive, immature, and obdurate Nancy looks just right for the role,” according to The Hindu’s review. In 2005, she costarred with another lead female character in three of her four releases: Rishi, Masala, and Auto Shankar. Again in 2005 she appeared in Anna Thangi collaborating with the Tavarige Baa Tangi team, Shivrajkumar and Radhika again playing the elder brother and younger sister roles, respectively.

She made another appearance in five Kannada films and one Tamil film the following year, Ulla Kadathal, which is still her final Tamil release. “Even though Hatavadi is essentially a Ravichandran film, it is to Radhika’s credit that she stands up to a superb performance,” stated R. G. Vijayasarathy, a critic for Rediff.com. Her portrayal on screen is excellent, and her emotions are flawless.
