Ram Rai and Manjula Rai welcomed Raai Laxmi into the world at Belgaum, Karnataka.She is a member of the Kutchi tribe of Saurashtra.Laxmi made her screen debut in the 2005 Tamil movie Karka Kasadara.
She then had several appearances in Tamil movies, including Kundakka Mandakka (2005), a comedy starring R. Parthiban, Dharmapuri (2006), an action-masala film directed by Perarasu, and Nenjai Thodu (2007). Her first Kannada film was Valmiki (2005), where she starred in opposite Shiva Rajkumar.
In 2008, she began working in more serious films such as the drama film Velli Thirai, in which she played herself, and the action thriller Dhaam Dhoom, directed by Jeeva. She received positive feedback for her portrayal of a lawyer in the latter. A review from Behindwoods wrote: “The latter (Raai Laxmi) sizzles even as she is supposed to play the court professional who is caught in the web of smuggling drugs”. She won her first Filmfare Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category.
In 2007, she made her Malayalam film debut as the lead opposite Mohanlal in Rock n’ Roll. She then starred in a number of highly popular movies, including Annan Thampi (2008), 2 Harihar Nagar (2009), Edam Swargamanu (2009), Chattambinadu (2009), and Chattambinadu (2009), both of which starred Mammootty. In 2009, she made appearances in the Tamil movies Muthirai, Vaamanan, and Naan Avanillai 2.
She portrayed a glitzy supermodel in Vaamanan (2009). She was featured in three movies in 2010. In two of them, Ghost House Inn and Pen Singam, she made special appearances during song sequences, while in the Tamil movie Irumbukkottai Murattu Singam, she played a cowgirl.
