Biography:

Prathyusha, an Indian actress who appeared in both Telugu and Tamil language films, was born on August 29, 1981, in Bhongir, located in present-day Telangana. Hailing from a middle-class family, her mother, Mrs. Sarojini Devi, worked as a government school teacher, and she had a brother named Praneet Chandra, also known as Krishna Chandra. Prathyusha received her education at various schools in the region, including St. Anns High School in Tarnaka, Hyderabad, and pursued her intermediate studies at Gouthami Residential Academy, S.R. Nagar. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Hotel Management from Banjara Hills and JB Institute of Hotel Management.

Prathyusha’s entry into the film industry was facilitated by her participation in the Television Star 2000 Contest, where she was crowned Ms. Lovely Smile. Her success in the contest opened the doors to a career in the film world, and she even had signed on for a Kannada film before her tragic passing. Her final film, the delayed 2004 release “Sound Party,” starring Sathyaraj, received positive reviews.

Sadly, Prathyusha’s life came to a tragic end on February 23, 2002, when she allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison alongside her friend Siddharth. The reported reason for this drastic action was the rejection of their marriage proposal by family members. The circumstances surrounding her death were highly controversial, with initial suspicion of murder. A forensic expert initially suggested that the cause of her death was ‘asphyxia due to manual strangulation,’ but this assessment was later found to be faulty. In 2004, Siddhartha was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and fined ₹6,000 after being found guilty of attempting suicide and abetting Prathyusha’s suicide. Following her passing, her mother established a charity in her memory.
