Perarasu, born on January 8, 1967, is a renowned Indian film director primarily associated with the Tamil cinema industry. He is particularly recognized for his work in masala films, often collaborating with actors like Vijay and Bharath. In addition to directing, Perarasu has worn various hats in the film industry, including roles as an actor, music director, singer, and lyricist.

Hailing from Natarasankottai in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, Perarasu embarked on his journey in the film industry after several years of trying to establish himself. He initially sought work as a director with offbeat stories but eventually transitioned into creating commercially viable films catering to the masses. His early experiences included assisting established directors like Rama Narayanan and N. Maharajan. During this time, he even made appearances in uncredited roles in a few films.

Perarasu made his directorial debut with the film “Thirupaachi,” starring Vijay in the lead role. The movie was a commercial success and marked the beginning of his career as a prominent director in Tamil cinema. He continued to work with Vijay in films like “Sivakasi” and “Thirupathi,” which were also well-received by the audience despite some critical reservations. Over the years, he directed several movies with notable actors and occasionally faced criticism for similarities in his projects.
