Paul Reiser, an American actor, comedian, and author, was born on March 30, 1956. In addition to playing Detective Jeffrey Friedman in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, he portrayed Modell in the 1982 movie Diner, Paul Buchman in the NBC sitcom Mad About You, and Michael Taylor in the 1980s sitcom My Two Dads. He became well-known for his parts as Dr. Sam Owens in the Netflix series Stranger Things and Jim Neiman in the 2014 movie Whiplash.
In James Cameron’s Aliens, Reiser played Carter Burke. He played Mindy Kominsky’s lover Martin in seasons two and three of The Kominsky Method.
Comedy Central’s 2004 list of the “100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time” places Reiser at number 77. One of his lines in the movie Diner, in which his character explains why he finds the word “nuance” offensive, served as the inspiration for the name of his production firm, Nuance Productions.
