P. N. Sundaram, an Indian cinematographer and director who worked in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi film industries, was born on March 18, 1934, and passed away on March 22, 2010.
He was raised in a lower middle class home, had hardships as a child, and began working at a young age. In the 1950s, he began working as a camera assistant at Vijaya Vauhini Studios. Later, he helped A. Vincent with cinematography.
He presided over the South Indian Cinematographers Association and was one of the original members of the Film Employees Federation of South India. In addition, Sundaram has directed a few movies, including seven Malayalam ones.
One of his most well-known Malayalam movies is Kolilakkam. The film’s principal actor, Jayan, perished in a helicopter crash as the film’s conclusion was being filmed.
For his work in the 1968 movie Uyarndha Manidhan, Sundaram received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Cinematographer in addition to numerous other honors, including one from actor and former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa.
Among many others, Uyarndha Manithan, Thanga Pathakkam, and Vietnam Veedu are among his most well-known creations. Additionally, he has collaborated with seasoned filmmakers and actors like Kamal Haasan, M. G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Sridevi, P. Madhavan, and Jayan.
