Narasimhan, popularly known as Omakuchi, was an acclaimed Indian stage and film actor who left a significant mark in the world of Indian cinema. He was born around 1936 in Kumbakonam. Narasimhan’s illustrious career spanned several decades, during which he appeared in over 1,500 films, primarily in the Tamil language. In the Telugu film industry, he was credited under the name Juttu Narasimham. His acting journey began with his debut in the 1953 movie “Avvaiyar,” but he took a lengthy hiatus from acting to focus on his studies before returning to the film industry in 1980.
Following his graduation, Narasimhan briefly worked for the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) before making a comeback in the Tamil film industry with “Gauri Kalyanam.” His career received a boost from legendary actor Suruli Rajan and director Visu. Over the years, Narasimhan showcased his versatile acting skills in various roles across 14 different Indian languages, even venturing into English cinema with the film “Indian Summer,” for which he traveled to the U.S. He was instrumental in guiding renowned director Shankar during the early stages of his career, having met him in Thillairajan’s drama troupe. His famous moniker “Omakuchi” was derived from a character he portrayed in the same troupe.
Tragically, Narasimhan passed away on March 12, 2009, at the age of 73, succumbing to throat cancer. His immense contribution to the Indian film industry and his versatile acting talent continue to be remembered and celebrated by film enthusiasts and the industry at large.
