Néstor Carbonell

Biography:

Carbonell was born in New York City to Rosa Ramírez de Arellano Cárdenas and Něor Tulio Carbonell Cortina, both of Cuban descent. His grandparents were Andalusian, Catalan, Basque, and Navarran, while his parents are Spanish. Carbonell was brought up as a Roman Catholic.

Because Nestor’s father was employed by PepsiCo, the family had to spend time in London, Mexico City, the Bahamas, and Caracas.His father, who wrote the book And The Russians Stayed: The Sovietization of Cuba, is likewise involved in the Cuban community.

Rosa Maria “Mia” Carbonell, a Senior Vise President of Corporate Communications at Forbes, is Carbonell’s elder sister. His relative is Rafael Palmeiro, a former professional baseball player. José Manuel Cortina, his paternal great-grandfather, was a renowned speaker and diplomat from Cuba.

Carbonell attended The British School while residing in Caracas. After his family returned to the United States, he and eventual Lost co-star Matthew Fox attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. His father and sister both attended Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1990.
