Nahas Nazar, hailing from Changanassery, ventured into filmmaking with no formal training or prior background, driven purely by passion. His journey began in Kochi, where he worked as an assistant director, gaining his first experience under Rishi Sivakumar for Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti (2016). However, his collaboration with director Khalid Rahman proved to be the turning point in his career. Nahas speaks highly of his mentor, stating, “Rahman ikka is unshaken even in the face of monumental challenges.” He further notes, “Having trained under stalwarts like Anwar Rasheed and Rajeev Ravi, he ensures his assistants are well-equipped to handle any situation during a shoot.”
Nahas is now set to make his directorial debut with Adios Amigo, a road trip comedy featuring Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu, releasing this Friday. Describing the film, he says, “Adios Amigo is about two strangers who embark on an unexpected journey, filled with humor and self-discovery. Over the course of two days, as they travel from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram, their bond grows, leading to profound changes in their lives.”
When asked about choosing Adios Amigo as his first independent project, Nahas shares that his primary aim was to deliver a quality film. He first encountered the script by Thankam during its early drafts while collaborating on Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha (2019). After completing his work on Khalid Rahman’s Thallumaala (2022), Thankam approached him with a revised narration of the script. “I was immediately convinced this should be my debut. The unique characters and their compelling interactions stood out to me, despite the weight of responsibility,” Nahas recalls.
