Biography:
Murali G is an Indian cinematographer primarily active in the Tamil film industry. He completed his studies at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and received the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film Cinematography in 2011.
Born and raised in a village near Uthangarai in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, Murali completed his schooling in Uthangarai. After finishing school, he worked as a social worker and actively participated in the student wing of the Communist Party of India for over a year. Later, he pursued a course in music at a college. Murali then enrolled at the Government Arts College in Kumbakonam to pursue a degree in fine arts. Subsequently, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune to study motion picture photography. He began his career by assisting Rajeev Ravi in Anurag Kashyap’s Dev.D (2009). Murali made his feature film debut with Andala Rakshasi (2012) and went on to work on notable films such as Madras (2014), Kabali (2016), Kaala (2018), and Sarpatta Parambarai (2021), all directed by Pa. Ranjith.
