Indian actor and playwright Muraleedharan Pillai, better known by his stage and television persona Murali, was born on May 25, 1954, and passed away on August 6, 2009. In addition to numerous other films, he primarily starred in Malayalam and a few Tamil productions.
For his depiction of Appa Mestry, a communist freedom warrior and skilled weaver in the 2002 film Neythukaran, he was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor. He was considered as one of the best performers in Malayalam movie history because of his ability to portray strong character, lead, and negative roles.
After starring in villainous parts in his early cinema career, Murali quickly shifted to character acting. The 1992 movie Aadhaaram, in which he starred, served as his “break” in the acting world.
After the movie did well at the box office, Murali became a star in Malayalam cinema, a position he held for a short while in the 1990s. In addition to his acting career, he served as the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy’s chairman from 2006 till his passing.
In addition, he won the Sangeetha Nataka Academy prize and wrote five books. He ran unsuccessfully as a communist in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.
In addition, he held the position of Director of Malayalam Communications Limited, a television corporation supported by the CPI(M) that operates the Malayalam TV networks Kairali TV, People TV, and We TV. Ven Shankhu Pol (2011) was the movie he last acted.
He was among the founding members of the Association of Malayalam Film Actors, or AMMA. Murali was born on May 25, 1954, in Kudavattoor, Kollam, Kerala, India, the eldest of P. Krishna Pillai and K. Devaki Amma’s five children.
Sheela, Harikumar, Sheeja, and Thulasi are his four siblings. He completed his education at Thrikannamangalam S. K. V. High School and Kudavattoor L. P. School. He graduated from Devaswom Board College in Sasthamkotta with a degree, having completed the pre-degree exam at M.G. College in Thiruvananthapuram.
He participated actively in the Indian Students Federation. He graduated with an LL.B. from Thiruvananthapuram’s Kerala Law Academy Law College. Following his education, he spent a few years working as an Upper Division Clerk at Kerala University’s office.
And as a Lower Division Clerk in the Kerala government’s Department of Health. He has a daughter named Karthika and was married to his first cousin Mini. On July 15, 2016, his daughter was married to Sonoop R. Nair.
