Mugur Sundar, a prominent figure in South Indian cinema, is a renowned dance choreographer known for his exceptional contributions to the industry. Born in Muguru, a village located in the Mysore district of Karnataka, Sundar’s influence in the world of dance transcends generations, as he has made significant contributions through his work as a choreographer and his family’s involvement in the industry.

Sundar is the father of three talented sons, Prabhu Deva, Raju Sundaram, and Nagendra Prasad, all of whom have followed in their father’s footsteps and become established dance masters in their own right. In addition to their expertise in dance, all three sons have ventured into acting, further solidifying the family’s presence in the Kollywood film industry. Prabhu Deva, in particular, has achieved great success and recognition not only as a dancer and actor but also as a director.

Mugur Sundar’s journey in the world of dance and entertainment began humbly. He started his career by working at the Chandamama Press in Chennai, where he earned a modest salary of Rs. 40 per month. Sundar’s passion for dance led him to pursue his dreams, and he invested Rs. 10 to learn the art form. His dedication and talent eventually paid off when he got his break as a group dancer in the 1962 film “Konjum Salangai.” Following this opportunity, he worked as an assistant to Thangappan master for four years, honing his skills and gaining valuable experience.

Sundar’s career as a choreographer took off in the late 1970s, and he became particularly active in the early 1980s. He emerged as a sought-after choreographer in the 1980s, collaborating with many leading actors of the time. Some of his early credited works include films like “Aarada Gaaya” (1980), “Preethisi Nodu,” “Prachanda Putanigalu,” “Anupama,” “Nee Nanna Gellalare,” and “Keralida Simha.” His choreography added an extra dimension to these movies and contributed to their overall appeal.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mugur Sundar choreographed for approximately 1000 movies, spanning over three decades. His work left an indelible mark on the South Indian film industry, elevating dance sequences in numerous iconic films.
