Mithran R. Jawahar, born on June 8, 1979, is an Indian film director known for his work primarily in Tamil cinema.
Jawahar started his career as an assistant to acclaimed director Selvaraghavan. He began working on his first film starring Dhanush in December 2004, which was initially a remake of the Telugu film Arya (2004). However, the project was put on hold and later resumed, leading to his directorial debut with the 2008 film “Yaaradi Nee Mohini,” featuring Dhanush and Nayantara, which became a commercial success.
Following the success of his debut, Jawahar directed two more films, “Kutty” (2010) and “Uthamaputhiran” (2010), both remakes featuring Dhanush in the lead role, which also achieved success at the box office.
In 2014, Jawahar began work on “Saamiyattam,” a remake of the Telugu film “Swamy Ra Ra,” but the project was shelved. He then directed the remake of the Malayalam film “Thattathin Marayathu,” titled “Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai,” in 2016.
In 2021, Jawahar ventured into original scripting with the social drama “Mathil,” starring director-actor K. S. Ravikumar, made for the digital platform Zee5.
