Midhun Mukundan

Biography:

Midhun Mukundan, an Indian music composer and singer, is prominently active in Kannada and Malayalam cinema. He embarked on his film music journey with the 2016 Kannada film “Kahi,” and his notable works encompass “Ondu Motteya Kathe” (2017), “Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana” (2021), and “Rorschach” (2022).

Born in Bangalore to a Malayali family, Mukundan initially pursued a career in medicine, earning his MBBS from A J Institute of Medical Science in Mangalore, Karnataka. However, fueled by his passion for music, he made a career switch.

Mukundan’s film career began with the 2016 release of “Kahi,” directed by Arvind Sastry. Despite the film’s delayed release, his musical score received widespread appreciation. His collaboration with director-actor Raj B. Shetty commenced with “Ondu Motteya Kathe” (2017), marking the beginning of a successful partnership. The soundtrack of the film gained acclaim, setting the stage for Mukundan’s continued success.

After the triumph of “Ondu Motteya Kathe,” Mukundan contributed to five films in 2019, including “Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakasha” and “D/O Parvathamma.” In 2020, he composed for the comedy film “Mayabazar 2016,” featuring a song recorded by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and starring Puneeth Rajkumar.

Mukundan’s significant breakthrough occurred with the 2021 gangster film “Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana” (GGVV), earning him a Best Music Director nomination at the SIIMA Awards. He described the project as his most creatively satisfying endeavor. Following this success, he ventured into Malayalam cinema with the psychological thriller “Rorschach” (2022), starring Mammootty.

In 2023, Mukundan collaborated with Raj B. Shetty once again for the film “Toby.” His other releases included “Poovan” and “Ramachandra Boss & Co” in Malayalam, and “Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye” in Kannada.
