Michael Trevino

Biography:

Michael Trevino was born on January 25, 1985, in Los Angeles and grew up in Montebello, California, before later relocating to Valencia. His mother hails from Zacatecas, Mexico, while his father was born in Fresno, California, to Mexican immigrant parents.

Early in his career, Trevino appeared as Jackson Meade in the Disney Channel Original Movie Cow Belles. He also made guest appearances on several television series, including Cold Case, Without a Trace, Bones, The Mentalist (as Bradon Fulton in season one), and Commander in Chief. He had a small role on Charmed during its eighth season, portraying Alastair in the episode “Malice in Wonderland.” Additionally, he held a recurring role on FX’s The Riches, playing high school student Brent in a multi-episode arc across the first season and appearing again early in season two.

In 2007, Trevino starred as Jaime Vega in the short-lived drama series Cane. The following year, he appeared in a three-episode storyline on The CW’s 90210 as Ozzie, a student at West Beverly Hills High School and a romantic interest for Naomi.

Trevino gained widespread recognition beginning in 2009 when he was cast as Tyler Lockwood on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries. He later reprised the role in a recurring capacity on the spin-off series The Originals in 2013, becoming the first major character to cross over between the two shows. His performance earned him two Teen Choice Awards along with ALMA Award nominations. In 2015, it was announced that he would exit The Vampire Diaries after its sixth season, though he returned for the series finale in the eighth season.

Starting in 2019, Trevino starred as Dr. Kyle Valenti on Roswell, New Mexico, a reimagining of the 1999 series Roswell. He remained with the show throughout its four-season run until it concluded in 2022 and also made his directorial debut by helming an episode in the fourth season.

Alongside his The Vampire Diaries co-stars Candice Accola and Ian Somerhalder, Trevino supports the It Gets Better Project, which focuses on suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth.

In his personal life, Trevino announced his engagement to Dutch model Bregje Heinen in December 2023. The couple married in Barcelona on June 20, 2025, and later that year, on December 31, they shared that they were expecting their first child.
