Michael Chaves is a North American visual effects artist and filmmaker who was born on November 3, 1984. His most well-known works as a director include The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), The Nun II (2023), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), and The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025).
Chaves began directing a number of short films, such as The Maiden, which took up the 2016 Shriekfest Best Super Short Horror Film Award. In addition, he developed and directed every episode of the television show Chase Champion.
The horror flicks The Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun II, and The Conjuring: Last Rites, all produced by James Wan, marked his entry into feature-length cinema. The last three films are The Conjuring Universe’s seventh, eighth, and ninth episodes, respectively. Additionally, he has a deal with Platinum Dunes to direct The Reckoning, another horror movie starring Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller, and Andrew Form. Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan wrote the script for the movie.
