Martin Wilson is a film director who has been nominated by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). In 2021, Universal Pictures released his first feature film, Great White, which starred Aaron Jakubenko (Tidelands, The Shannara Chronicles) and Katrina Bowden (30 Rock, Bold and the Beautiful). The New York Times selected “Great White as one of top 5 film action films of 2021 with director Martin Wilson, following in the footsteps of Deep Blue Sea and The Meg to deliver a hair raising survivalist set pieces proving it’s still not safe to go back in the water.” In an effort to dispel stigma and prejudices, Martin’s second feature film, Pieces, which was released in 2022, explores the lives of people with complicated mental illness.
Pieces has been nominated for Best Indie Film and Best Costume Design at the 2022 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards. For the movie, Martin is a nominee for the 2022 Australian Directors Guild Award for Best Direction. Martin’s work on Helping Minds: Real Stories has earned him a nomination for the 2018 Australian Directors’ Guild Award. Additionally, he won the 2021 PADC Diamond Skull Award for Best Director.
