Manu Joseph is an Indian writer and journalist who was born on July 22, 1974. He was Open magazine’s previous editor. Manu was raised in Chennai after being born in Kottayam, Kerala. Thoranam (1987), a Malayalam film, was directed by his father, Joseph Madappally. He left Madras Christian College to work as a staff writer at Society magazine after graduating from Loyola College in Chennai. He used to be the editor of Open magazine and now writes columns for The Hindustan Times and The International New York Times. He was a Chevening Scholar in 2007.
At the moment, he resides in Delhi. His first book, Serious Men (2010), was awarded the PEN Open Book Award and the Hindu Literary Prize. Sudhir Mishra made a feature film adaptation of it with the same name.
September 2012 saw the release of his second book, The Illicit Happiness of Other People. In addition, he created the screenplay for the 2009 movie Love Khichdi. Manu left his position as editor of Open magazine in January 2014.
