Abdul Majith is an Indian film director and screenwriter known for his contributions to Tamil cinema. He marked his directorial debut in 2002 with the social drama “Thamizhan,” featuring popular actors Vijay and Priyanka Chopra. The film aimed to raise awareness about legal rights and garnered mixed reviews upon release, with some critics praising the strong dialogue delivery and others finding certain scenes to be overly dramatic. Since then, Majith has primarily worked on lower-budget projects in the industry.
Majith’s career began to take shape in 1996 when he worked as a story writer for director Selva. In 2001, he was slated to direct a film titled “Velan,” starring Vijay and Priyanka Chopra. However, due to the untimely death of the original director Thirupathisamy in an accident, Majith was given the opportunity to helm the film with the same cast. “Thamizhan” was a socially relevant film that aimed to promote awareness of legal rights, generating anticipation prior to its release. Although the film received a mix of reviews, it was noted for its strong dialogues and meaningful content.
Majith’s subsequent projects included the thriller “Thunichal,” which faced indefinite postponement due to financial constraints, and the romantic drama “Kee Mu” in 2008, which featured newcomers and received negative reviews. In more recent years, he ventured into films like “Paisa,” set in a slum, and a female-centric thriller titled “Torchlight” in 2017.
