Mahima Chaudhry, an Indian actress and model who featured in Hindi cinema, was born Ritu Chaudhry on September 13, 1973. Before breaking into the movie industry in the 1990s, Chaudhry completed a few modeling jobs and made many TV commercial appearances.
Her first feature film role was in the patriotic romantic drama Pardes (1997), for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress and took home the Best Female Debut prize. Her career began with a number of roles in movies such as Daag (1999), Dhadkan (2000), Kurukshetra (2000), and Baghban (2003).
She also received praise from critics for her roles in Lajja (2001), Dobara (2004), and Dil Kya Kare (1999), which led to nominations for the Filmfare Award’s Best Supporting Actress. Born in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, as Ritu Chaudhry, she attended Dow Hill in Kurseong until class eleven before relocating to Loreto College in Darjeeling.
Her director, Subhash Ghai, suggested that she change her name to Mahima Chaudhry before her first release, Pardes, since he thought the letter ‘M’ was auspicious for leading ladies in his films.
Chaudhry was involved in a car accident in 1999 while filming Dil Kya Kare; her vehicle collided with a truck in Bangalore, necessitating the removal of several pieces of glass from her face In 2006, she wed Bobby Mukherji, an architect. 2013 saw the couple’s separation.
