Maheswari Chanakyan, widely recognized as V.J. Maheswari, is a prominent Indian actress and former video jockey primarily active in Tamil television shows and films. She gained significant fame for her portrayal of the character Kavya in Star Vijay’s popular soap opera, “Puthu Kavithai.” Additionally, she made a notable appearance in the 2022 blockbuster film “Vikram.”
Maheswari hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, born to Sreenivasan and Latha. She received her education at Adarsh Vidyalaya in T. Nagar and later graduated from the University of Madras, Chennai.
Her journey in the entertainment industry began in 2010 with her debut in the low-budget film “Kuyil.” Concurrently, she ventured into television by participating in advertisement shoots and modeling photo shoots, which kindled her interest in anchoring and hosting.
In 2013, she marked her television acting debut with the romantic series “Puthu Kavithai,” which aired on Star Vijay, where she portrayed a character opposite actor Dinesh. Her talent was further showcased in the soap opera “Thayumanavan,” in which she played the role of Mahalakshmi, also airing on Star Vijay. However, Maheswari decided to step back from serials for personal reasons and transitioned to anchoring.
She expanded her career by hosting television shows like “Comedy Khiladis” and “Petta Rap,” both broadcast on Zee Tamil.
In 2021, Maheswari received a significant opportunity when acclaimed actor Kamal Haasan offered her a role in his film “Vikram.” She enthusiastically accepted the offer and was cast opposite actor Vijay Sethupathi. This development marked a pivotal moment in her career, as working alongside such renowned actors in a high-profile project brought her even greater recognition and acclaim.
