Magizh Thirumeni is an Indian film director renowned for his work in the Tamil film industry. His journey in cinema began as an assistant to acclaimed directors Selvaraghavan and Gautham Vasudev Menon. He later ventured into directing and has helmed five films, particularly excelling in the action thriller genre. These include “Thadaiyara Thaakka” (2012), “Meaghamann” (2013), “Thadam” (2019), and “Kalaga Thalaivan” (2022).
During his teenage years, Magizh Thirumeni was an enthusiastic reader of Tamil and Russian literature. He often expressed his creativity through poetry and short stories, finding these pursuits immensely fulfilling. This passion eventually led him to experiment with writing novels and scripts before becoming captivated by the world of filmmaking.
In the early 2000s, Magizh aspired to make a mark in the film industry as a director. He diligently visited the offices of renowned directors, including P. Vasu and T. Rajender, in the hope of joining their teams. He got his initial break when director Kasthuri Raja enlisted him to work on Selvaraghavan’s debut film.
However, due to delays, Magizh initially served as an assistant director on their coming-of-age film “Thulluvadho Ilamai” (2002). Later, while working on post-production for another film, he crossed paths with his mentor, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and offered to collaborate with him. He was eventually signed on during the production of “Kaakha Kaakha” (2003). Magizh contributed significantly to this film and “Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu” (2006) before leaving Menon’s team ten days into the shoot of “Pachaikili Muthucharam” (2007).
Magizh Thirumeni’s directorial debut came in 2010 with the romantic comedy “Mundhinam Paartheney,” which featured a cast of newcomers. His second film, the action-packed “Thadaiyara Thaakka” (2012), starring Arun Vijay and Mamta Mohandas, was released in June 2012 and gained a dedicated following despite initial challenges with its release and publicity.
Following the success of “Thadaiyara Thaakka,” Magizh directed another action thriller, “Meaghamann” (2014), starring Arya and Hansika Motwani, which received positive reviews. His next film, “Thadam” (2019), marked his second collaboration with Arun Vijay and was a massive hit, earning both critical acclaim and audience approval. It is considered one of Arun Vijay’s finest films.
For his latest project, “Kalaga Thalaivan,” released in November 2022, Magizh Thirumeni worked with Udhayanidhi Stalin, Nidhi Agerwal, and Arav. However, this film received mixed reviews from critics.
