Lijo Jose Pellissery

Biography:

Lijo Jose Pellissery is an Indian filmmaker and actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema. Some of his notable films include “Amen” (2013), “Angamaly Diaries” (2017), “Ee.Ma.Yau.” (2018), “Jallikattu” (2019), “Churuli” (2021), and “Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam” (2023). He comes from a family with a background in the film industry, as his father, Jose Pellissery, was also an actor.

Pellissery is recognized for his unconventional approach to filmmaking, often employing nonlinear storylines and long takes in his movies. He is known for completing his projects in a relatively short amount of time, with films like “Ee.Ma.Yau.” and “Churuli” being shot in less than 20 days.

He has received several awards for his work, including Best Director Awards at the Kerala State Film Awards and Silver Peacock-Best Director Awards at the International Film Festival of India. His film “Jallikattu” was India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Born on September 18, 1978, in Chalakudy, Kerala, Pellissery attended Carmel Higher Secondary School and later graduated from Union Christian College, Aluva. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore.
