English musician, recording engineer, music programmer, and producer Leopold “Leo” Ross. Leopold plays guitar for Io Echo, a band from Los Angeles. His work on numerous film and television scores alongside his brother Atticus Ross is what made him most famous.
Leopold was one of the original members of the eclectic rock group Nojahoda, which in 1999 put out one album on Sony S2 Records. He joined Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion and his brother Atticus Ross in 2003 to form the punk/hardcore band Error. In 2004, the band recorded and released a well-received EP on Epitaph Records, including Greg Puciato as a temporary vocalist. Around this same period, Leopold also started his career as a composer, working with Atticus Ross and Claudia Sarne to write the music for the USA Network series Touching Evil.
Since 2009, Leopold has composed music for a number of films and television series, starting with the Hughes brothers’ film The Book of Eli. This score took home a BMI film music award in May 2010.
Bad Religion, Grace Jones, Korn, Dillinger Escape Plan, Rancid, The Transplants, Five Finger Death Punch, Brigitte Fontaine, The Big Pink, Io Echo, and Brett Anderson are just a few of the well-known acts that Leopold has written, recorded, produced, and played with outside of his work as a score composer.
Model Liberty Ross and musician Atticus Ross are two of Ross’s five siblings. Miles Lampson, 1st Baron Killearn, was his maternal grandfather. Thanks to his great-grandfather, Aldo Castellani, he has Italian ancestry.
