Kovai Babu is a comedian and actor from Tamil Nadu, India. Kovai Babu first gained popularity for his humorous track sequence in the part of Minor Kunjumani. Later, he appeared on screen alongside comedian Vivek in the 2003 movie Kadhal Sadugudu. His humorous performances in Raja Rani, a television soap opera sponsored by Star Vijay, further established his presence in the genre.
He gained notoriety for playing the role of veteran Vivek in the Kamal Haasan film Indian 2, who unexpectedly passed away in 2021 from congestive heart failure. Kovai Babu served as the body double for Vivek’s sequences, and his face was digitally altered to seem like Vivek’s.
Shankar chose to employ visual effects to finish the remaining scenes in Indian 2 because Vivek and Venu passed away before the filming could be finished. The film’s director, S. Shankar, brought in Kovai Babu as a like-to-like replacement because Vivek’s untimely death in the middle of principal photography meant that the remaining scenes involving Vivek had to be completed by bringing on board someone who looked like Vivek. As a body duplicate for the late actor Vivek, Kovai Babu eventually finished his film roles in Indian 2 and Indian 3.
