Indian filmmaker Kanmani has directed films in the languages of Tamil and Telugu. Kanmani had greater success in Telugu movies after starting his career in Tamil cinema.
After graduating from Presidency College in Chennai, Kanmani began working as a chorus singer for composer Ilaiyaraaja, a role he held for twelve years.
After working as an apprentice for director Saran on the film Gemini (2002), he made his feature film debut in the low-budget romantic comedy Aahaa Ethanai Azhagu (2003), starring Charmy Kaur and Mithun Tejaswi.
His next two Telugu films, Naa Oopiri (2005) and Chinnodu (2006), were commercial successes. He then went on to direct the romantic comedy Odipolama (2009) and the social drama Call Center (2008). He filmed Beeruva in Telugu in 2015, and then he started on Peigal Jaakirathai, a horror comedy.
