Biography:

Kaniha, originally named Divya Venkatasubramaniam, is an accomplished Indian actress who primarily works in Malayalam cinema, with occasional appearances in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. She made her debut in the Indian film industry in 2002 with the Tamil movie “Five Star.”

Born in a Tamilian family, Kaniha showed early promise by winning the Tamil Nadu State Award for Educational Excellence in 1999. She nurtured her singing talent from a young age and even performed in pop and light music shows. Her entry into the entertainment world was somewhat serendipitous when she was selected as a participant for the Miss Chennai beauty pageant in 2001 after a last-minute withdrawal by another model. Her victory in the pageant served as a stepping stone to her film career.

Kaniha’s cinematic journey began when she was spotted by director Susi Ganesan on a magazine cover, leading to her first lead role in the Tamil film “Five Star.” Despite being a student, she completed the entire film during her summer holidays. She furthered her acting career with appearances in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films, delivering notable performances in movies like “Aethiree” and “Bhagyadevatha.” Kaniha also explored television as a host and judge for various shows, and her talents extended to playback singing and dubbing. After a hiatus following her marriage, she made a successful comeback to the Malayalam film industry in 2009 with films like “Bhagyadevatha” and “Pazhassi Raja.”

In her personal life, Kaniha is married to Shyam Radhakrishnan, a US-based software engineer, and they have a son named Sai Rishi. Initially planning to leave the film industry, she decided to continue acting and has since enjoyed a thriving career in the world of Indian cinema.
