Biography:

Kalyan, an acclaimed Indian choreographer, has made significant contributions primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema, while also leaving his mark in Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada films. His journey in the entertainment industry began as a dancer and actor before establishing himself as a sought-after choreographer, having lent his expertise to over two hundred films and gaining recognition as a popular choreographer.

Commencing his career as a dancer under the guidance of his great aunt, Puliyur Saroja, Kalyan debuted in the film “Per Sollum Pillai” (1987). He further honed his skills as an assistant choreographer, collaborating with Saroja in several popular Tamil films during the 1980s. Transitioning into acting, Kalyan portrayed negative roles in movies like “Kalloori Vaasal” (1996) alongside Ajith Kumar, Prashanth, and Pooja Bhatt. His antagonistic portrayal against actor Vijay in S. A. Chandrasekhar’s “Maanbumigu Maanavan” (1996) showcased his versatility before he pivoted primarily into choreography.

Starting as an assistant to various renowned dancers like Chinni Prakash, Thara, Tharun, and Puliyur Saroja, Kalyan eventually emerged as a main choreographer. His breakthrough came with the film “Dheena” (2001), solidifying his position in the industry. Despite focusing on choreography, he continued occasional acting stints, appearing in films such as “Kattradhu Kalavu” (2010) and co-producing “Kannula Kaasa Kattappa” (2016).

Aside from his contributions to the silver screen, Kalyan has been a consistent judge on popular reality TV dance shows like “Jodi Number One” and “Kings of Dance” for Vijay TV. His expertise and eye for choreography have earned him a reputable stature within the industry, while his continued involvement in acting and television showcases his multifaceted talents and enduring presence in the entertainment sphere.
