Early Life:
Kabir Bedi was born on January 16, 1946, into a Punjabi Khatri Sikh family that had dedicated itself to the fight for India’s freedom from British colonial control in Lahore, the Punjab Province of British India (now in Punjab, Pakistan). One of three kids, he was. Author and philosopher Baba Pyare Lal Singh Bedi was his father. His mother, Freda Bedi, was a notable British woman who was the first Western woman to receive ordination in Tibetan Buddhism. She was born in Derby, England. He received his education at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi as well as Sherwood College in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
Personal Life:
Bedi had three children—Pooja, Siddharth (who passed away), and Adam—from his four previous marriages. Protima Bedi, an Odissi dancer, was his wife. Pooja Bedi, their daughter, is a columnist for magazines and newspapers and a former actress. Siddharth, a Carnegie Mellon University graduate who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, took his own life at the age of 26 in 1997.
He started dating Parveen Babi as his marriage to Protima started to fall apart. They did not wed. Later, he wed Susan Humphreys, a British-born fashion designer. The thriller Hello? Kaun Hai! marked the debut of their son Adam Bedi, a worldwide model. This union broke up in divorce.
Bedi wed Nikki Bedi, a TV and radio host, in the early 1990s. They got divorced in 2005 and never had kids. Following that, Bedi began dating Parveen Dusanj, a British-born woman whom he later married only one day before turning 70.
Bedi is a representative of the Burma Campaign UK and supports the oppositional movement in Myanmar. He represents the Teach Programme and the Total Literacy Mission of Rotary International South Asia in India and South Asia.
Film Career:
Bedi portrayed the role of Gobinda, the villain’s aide, in the James Bond movie Octopussy.
He has appeared in more than 60 Indian films. He played Emperor Shah Jahan in the historical epic Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story. Other prominent parts in Hindi films include those in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na, Rakesh Roshan’s Khoon Bhari Maang, and Raj Khosla’s Kacche Dhaage.
Bedi collaborated on a film alongside Akshay Kumar (Blue), Govinda (Showman), and Hrithik Roshan (Kites). Alongside Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham, he also appeared in Kamagata Maru, a movie directed by Deepa Mehta. Vasanthabalan, the director of the Tamil film Aravaan, cast him as an actor.
Bedi starred in Kevin Reynolds’ The Beast of War, a Columbia Pictures movie on the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, as well as Marco Ponti’s critically praised David di Donatello Award-winning Italian film Andata Ritorno. In 2017, he played Nahapana, a significant leader of the Western Kshatrapas, in the Telugu historical drama Gautamiputra Satakarni.
