K. Madhavan

Biography:

K Madhavan leads the company’s strategy and expansion in India as Country Manager & President, The Walt Disney Company India and Star India. He is in charge of the extensive Disney, Star, and Hotstar businesses and operations that span entertainment, sports, regional channels, and direct-to-consumer. This includes managing advertising sales and channel distribution, in addition to a flourishing local content production company that presently produces 18,000 hours of unique material in eight languages for sports, movies, non-fiction, and fiction.

K Madhavan has been in charge of Star & Disney India’s television and studio operations in India since 2019 as the company’s country manager. He was in charge of spearheading the company’s expansion, emphasizing innovation, and producing engaging content for customers.

In 2009, K Madhavan became the South Head of Star India. The business developed a successful portfolio of regional entertainment under his direction. Previously, he was the driving force behind Asianet’s growth as the undisputed leader in Malayalam with more than 50% of market share, serving as MD and CEO in 2000-2008. His vision for the regional language network led the company to set benchmarks in quality programming in South India.

K Madhavan worked in corporate finance and banking before entering the media. K Madhavan is now the head of the National Committee of Media & Entertainment (CII) (Confederation of Indian Industry) and the president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF). He holds a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB) certification and a postgraduate degree in commerce from Calicut University.
