American television showrunner, producer, and screenwriter Justin Marks was born in 1980. As one of the screenwriters for Top Gun: Maverick (2022), he was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 95th Academy Awards. He also penned the screenplay for the 2016 live-action Jungle Book. Based on James Clavell’s novel, Marks co-created and served as showrunner of the FX epic series Shōgun with his wife, Rachel Kondo. In 2002, Marks received his degree in architecture from Columbia College of Columbia University. He made friends with a literary manager in his senior year, who assisted him in starting a screenwriting career.
