Biography:

John Wayne was an iconic American actor who was one of the most famous figures in the history of Western and action movies. He was born as Marion Robert Morrison on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. At first, John Wayne worked as a prop man and an extra in Hollywood; he achieved fame in John Ford’s movie Stagecoach (1939). John Wayne had a distinct voice and a large body; he portrayed such rough characters in his movies that made him an iconic star of Westerns. Some of the famous movies of John Wayne included The Searchers (1956), Rio Bravo (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and The Alamo (1960).

John Wayne won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as an old sheriff named Rooster Cogburn in True Grit (1969). He was nominated for the Oscars twice for his roles in Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and The Alamo (1960). He starred in Western movies, war movies, dramas, and historical epics, thus making himself a box office star for many years. John Wayne’s last movie was The Shootist (1976) where he performed the role of an old gun fighter who has come to face his death. John Wayne died on June 11, 1979, in Los Angeles, California.
