Anant Nagarkatte, born on September 4, 1948, is a prominent Indian actor known primarily for his significant contributions to Kannada cinema. His extensive career encompasses a remarkable tally of over 300 films, spanning various languages including Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, and English. Anant Nag has also made notable appearances in theater productions, parallel cinema, and television shows.
His journey in feature films commenced with “Sankalpa” in 1973, directed by Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs. “Sankalpa” achieved considerable recognition, winning seven state awards in Karnataka. Anant Nag’s entry into parallel cinema occurred through Shyam Benegal’s “Ankur” in 1974.
Throughout his illustrious career, he has starred in numerous commercially successful Kannada films, including “Bayalu Daari” (1976), “Kanneshwara Rama” (1977), “Naa Ninna Bidalaare” (1979), “Chandanada Gombe” (1979), “Benkiya Bale” (1983), “Hendthige Helbedi” (1989), “Ganeshana Maduve” (1990), “Gowri Ganesha” (1991), “Mungaru Male” (2006), “Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu” (2016), “Raajakumara” (2017), “Sarkari Hi. Anant Nag also made a mark in the world of television with his role in “Malgudi Days,” a popular Doordarshan series based on the stories of R. K. Narayan. He is a recipient of six Filmfare Awards South and five Karnataka State Film Awards. Notably, he is the elder brother of the acclaimed director and actor Shankar Nag.
