Jeeva Shankar

Biography:

Formerly a cinematographer, Jeeva Shankar is currently a writer and director working on Tamil movies. Among his well-known productions are Naan and Amara Kaaviyam. He began work on an untitled project for Escape Artist Motion Pictures in 2013. Yeman is Jeeva Shankar’s upcoming project.

He began his career working as Jeeva’s assistant cinematographer. Siddharth Venugopal played the lead role in his 2008 debut film Naan, while Rukmini Vijayakumar played the lead female role.

However, Oscar Ravichandran, the film’s producer, decided to shelve the project when Ananda Thandavam, his last film, failed to meet box office expectations. In December 2010, Vijay Antony, who had replaced Siddharth Venugopal in the lead role, intervened to bring the film back to life. Both the box office performance and critic reviews for the movie were favorable.

After the critical and financial triumph of his last work Naan, filmmaker Jeeva Shankar penned a fresh script for Amara Kaaviyam, a 1980s college love story. The movie was to be produced by Madhan of Escape Artistes Motion Pictures, and Yuvan Shankar Raja was confirmed as the composer of the music. After it was revealed that Adharvaa would play the lead, she decided not to proceed with the film during pre-production, and the production company abandoned it.

In September 2013, Sathya took over from Jeeva Shankar, with the film being produced by Sathya’s brother Arya through The Show People, his production company. Actress Miya, who made her breakthrough in Tamil films, was signed on to play the major female part. In October 2013, the movie’s production got underway in Ooty, with costume designer Sai getting ready to create outfits for the 1980s backdrop. Unfortunately, the movie was overlooked and had bad reviews.
