Actress and politician Jayamala is from India. As a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, she held the position of Minister for Women and Child Development and Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens in the Government of Karnataka.

In Mangalore, Jayamala was born into a family that spoke Tulu. Her mother Kamalamma was a homemaker, and her father G. Omaiah was an agriculturalist. She has a brother and six sisters. They were forced to relocate in 1963 owing to harbor construction in Panambur and settled in Chikmagalur.
Actor Tiger Prabhakar from Kannada films was her first husband. and Soundarya, a well-known actress in her own right, is the couple’s daughter. She married cinematographer H. M. Ramachandra following her divorce Jayamala has acted in multiple Kannada-language films.
In the early 1980s, Jayamala was the most glamorous heroine in Kannada cinema. She began her career as a Rajkumar heroine and, following a run of hit films with him, went on to play opposite all of Sandalwood’s biggest heroes. She appeared in love films with Anant Nag as Janma Janmada Anubandha and Premave Baalina Belaku.
She starred alongside Vishnuvardhan in multi-starrer pot-boilers such as Sididedda Sahodara, Hanthakana Sanchu, and Naga Kala Bhairava. Her relationship with Ambareesh began with the cult classic Antha, in which she played the sad character of his sister, a cabaret dancer.
She then starred as his heroine in a number of films, including Ajith, Prema Matsara, and Khadeema Kallaru. Her collaboration with Shankar Nag on a number of films, such as the action-packed Chandi Chamundi, which established her as a household figure, also proved to be fruitful.
Her final successful relationship was with Prabhakar, who had also acted as her brother in Chandi Chamundi. She wed him in 1985 and then stopped doing movies. It’s interesting to note that Jayamala and popular heroine Aarathi costarred in nine movies, with Jayamala’s glitz elevating Aarathi’s allure as a plain lady.
Girish Kasaravalli directed her first production, Thaayi Saheba, which took home a national award. Jayamala’s performance in the movie earned her a special jury award. When Jayamala became the only actress in the Indian film business to be awarded a degree for authoring a thesis, she sort of made history.
Her thesis, which examined rural women’s rehabilitation in Karnataka, required her to travel the state and carefully review a number of papers. On January 18, 2008, Bangalore University awarded a doctorate, which former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam presented.
