Biography:
Jason Robards was an accomplished American actor who is renowned for his impressive acting skills on the theater, film and television stage. He was born on July 26, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois and embarked on his acting career on the stage after his military service in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. He is especially renowned for his contribution to modern American theater and the playwrites of Eugene O’Neill.
In the movies, he acted in a number of highly acclaimed films that included All the President’s Men (1976), Julia (1977), The Day of the Locust (1975), Magnolia (1999), and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).Robards won back-to-back Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for All the President’s Men (1976) in which he acted as the journalist Ben Bradlee and Julia (1977) in which he acted as the writer Dashiell Hammett. His other notable acting job was in Melvin and Howard where he acted as Howard Hughes earning another nomination for the academy award. He was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won the Best Actor for The Disenchanted (1959).
His other notable films were Philadelphia (1993), Parenthood (1989), Awakenings (1990), and The Paper (1994). Robards was active up till late 1990s when he died on December 26, 2000, at Bridgeport Hospital, Fairfield County, Connecticut, at the age of 78.
