British actor Jared Francis Harris was born on August 24, 1961. He attended Duke University and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama to study drama. He is the son of actor Richard Harris. In addition to nominations for two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award, he has won other honors, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and a British Academy Television Award.
At the Public Theater in New York and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in London, Harris began his professional acting career performing in plays by William Shakespeare. Before playing Andy Warhol in I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), he made his cinematic debut in a supporting part in the British comedy The Rachel Papers (1995). He also had supporting roles in the films Far and Away (1992), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Natural Born Killers (1994), Dead Man (1995), and Happiness (1998). From 2008 to 2012, he played David Robert Jones in the Fox science fiction series Fringe.
He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Lane Pryce in the AMC period drama series Mad Men (2009–2012), which garnered him critical acclaim. He portrayed Anderson Dawes in the Skfy science fiction series The Expanse (2015–2017) and Captain Francis Crozier in the AMC supernatural horror series The Terror (2018). He also starred in the movies The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011), and Lincoln (2012).
Harris was nominated for a British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as King George VI in the Netflix historical drama series The Crown, which ran from 2016 to 2017. In the 2019 HBO miniseries Chernobyl, he played the lead character of Valery Legasov, for which he received the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor and received nominations for both the Golden Globe and the Primetime Emmy. [2] He most recently starred in A House of Dynamite (2025), Certain Women (2016), Allied (2016), and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015). He has been playing the lead role of Hari Seldon in the science fiction series Foundation on Apple TV+ since 2021.
