Known by his moniker, Innocent Vareed Thekkethala (28 February 1948 – 26 March 2023), Innocent was an Indian actor, film producer, writer, and politician . Over the course of his nearly fifty-year career, he starred in over 700 Malayalam films, as well as a few Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and English films, most of which were comedic.
He is widely recognized as one of the best comedians in Malayalam movie history, but he is also well-known for playing complex and unpleasant characters. In addition, he has won other accolades, including seven Asianet Film Awards, a Kerala Film Critics Award, a Filmfare Awards South, and three Kerala State Film Awards. Additionally, in 2020, he received the esteemed Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Humor for his book.
From 2014 until 2019, he represented the Chalakudy constituency as a member of India’s 16th Lok Sabha. He was chosen to serve on the Irinjalakuda municipality’s municipal council in 1979. Innocent, an independent candidate backed by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency. From 2003 to 2018, Innocent presided over the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), a guild of Malayalam artists.
