Biography:
Humphrey Bogart is one of the most recognizable actors during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He was known for his unique voice, macho appearance, and roles as cynics and idealists. Born on December 25, 1899, in New York, Bogart started his career as an actor on Broadway and transitioned to movies in the 1930s. At first, he was cast in supporting roles as well as gangster roles before he reached fame with his performance in The Petrified Forest. His breakthrough in the industry occurred with films such as High Sierra, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, where he played Rick Blaine and became a Hollywood star.
In addition to Casablanca, his other famous films include To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep, Key Largo, and The African Queen. He won an Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Charlie Allnut in The African Queen and got nominated for another Academy Award for Best Actor for Casablanca. Together with Lauren Bacall, he formed one of the most famous Hollywood romances that began with To Have and Have Not. Bogart’s career lasted for more than three decades. He was also associated with the genre of film noir and the image of a Hollywood hero. He died on January 14, 1957, in Los Angeles, California.
