Hildur Ingveldardóttir Guðnættir (born September 4, 1982) is a composer and musician from Iceland. She is a classically educated cellist who has toured with Animal Collective and Sunn O, as well as performed and recorded with the bands Pan Sonic, Throbbing Gristle, Múm, and Stórsveit Nix Noltes. Among the many honours she has received are two Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a Primetime Emmy. For her music for films and television shows, such as Journey’s End (2017), Mary Magdalene (2018), Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), Todd Field’s Tár, and Sarah Polley’s Women Talking (all 2022), Hildur has become well-known worldwide.
She became the first solo female composer to win the Academy Award for Best Original Score, the BAFTA Award for Best Original Music, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score for her work on Todd Phillips’ psychological thriller film Joker (2019). She is also well-known for her work on the 2019 HBO miniseries Chernobyl, for which she received a Grammy, a BAFTA TV Award, and a Primetime Emmy.
